In 2006, Niall worked closely with Mirvac and Mirvac Design to develop the winning tender bid for Landcorp's project on the old hospital site in Port Hedland opposite the proposed Marina. This included a 120 room resort hotel, short stay apartments and a large adjacent grouped housing precinct. Grounds Kent Architects were also involved in developing the design for the hotel component of the bid.
This extensive project carefully considered materiality and buildability, climate, security, internal and external community relationships, integration into the town and it's role as a catalyst for the development of a new town centre.
The project went through numerous design iterations with Mirvac and Landcorp over the following years before being put on hold due to the eventual slowing in Resources driven demand for accommodation in the town.
