Lakeview - Farmhouse in The Great Southern Region

Limelake - contemporary farm house - floor plan.

Our clients wanted a contemporary home that would be fully off-grid on their working farm in the great southern region. The house will sit as a sculptural element in the landscape.

The site is located on the side of a hill with extensive views across the lakes below. The house will be set between natural granite outcrops and positioned to take full advantage of these views.

As farmers, our clients naturally have a love of the land, so a strong visual and physical connection to the outdoors is vital.

The house will be fully off-grid so energy efficiency, and correct orientation for passive solar gain are imperative. Protection from strong prevailing winds also needs to be given careful consideration. A defensive outer shell screens the house on three sides, with the north facade opening to views & winter sunshine. This shell is carved out to created sheltered outdoor living areas, overlooking the family farm and the lakes beyond.

Views through the house, from front to rear, create a sense of lightness & transparency.

“We approached Coveney Browne to help us with designing our house and have nothing but praise for the experience.

We believe that Irene and Niall complement each other and both bring separate skillsets that encompasses creative vision and practicality.

With professionalism they listened to what we were trying to achieve and have created a design that has evolved and been honed to a home that we are very excited to build.”
